‘The Holland Track’ is a unique and unspoiled route through bush land and scrub that runs in a general north-easterly direction from Broomehill (near Katanning on the Great Southern Highway), to Coolgardie on the Great Eastern Highway. The route is historically significant in Western Australia’s early development and the EiA Expedition team plan to travel it in tribute to the extraordinary courage of the four men who originally travelled the route and their amazing achievement. Between Broomehill and Hyden, the Holland Track has been overtaken by farmland. Several now unconnected sections of the original track can still be followed on wheatbelt roads through this region. The eastern half of the track is through virgin bush land out past the rabbit barrier fence. It is a remarkable heritage trail only reopened to travelers in 1993 through the dedicated efforts of Graeme Newbey and others. Some information sourced from: http://www.exploroz.com/Treknotes/Southcoast/Holland_Track.aspEiA3 'Schools Across Australia' will be an ambitious extension to the current EiA2 plan. Through the use of realtime video-conferencing, a selection of schools across Australia will be directly linked to the EiA3 expedition and will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive information. A new series of lesson plans are in development to best make use of this technology and give children the opportunity to learn whilst experiencing a real-world Australian bush expedition first-hand. One of the key focuses of this walk will be the theme 'Giving Breast Cancer the Boot'. The EiA team in partnership with Steel Blue and the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA will be joining the 'Purple Boot Brigade' and helping raise funds for breast cancer research.
